-
Research in Fire Engineering aims at exploring the scientific understanding of
building fire problems and fire protection engineering.
-
This is very critical
in implementing Engineering Performance-Based Fire Codes (EPBFC) for providing
better safety to people.
-
Work carried out can be divided into theoretical
studies and practical activities.
-
For the theoretical aspect, intense
effort has been put into fire modelling. Research on fire spread using
the field modelling technique (or sometimes called computational fluid
dynamics CFD) is actively performed.
-
Practical fire problems encountered
by the local industry were tackled. Areas included water system research,
smoke management, false alarms, fire detection system, and fire aspects
in industrial buildings, hotels, karaokes, tunnels, car parks and university
campuses.
