A cone calorimeter with adjustable oxygen content and relative humidity was developed in 1994 for studying the heat release rate of building materials.

The PolyU is the only university in the world with such a facility to measure the heat release rate of materials under controlled atmosphere by varying both the oxygen content and the relative humidity.
