34^th International Symposium on CIBW062 Water Supply and Drainage for Buildings

With the support of the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB) W062 commission members, the 34^th International Symposium on Water Supply and Drainage for Buildings (CIBW062 2008 Hong Kong) was held in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 8-10 September 2008. The symposium was organized by the Department of Building Services Engineering and supported by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

The symposium welcome speech was delivered by Prof. W.K. Chow, Chair Professor of Architectural Science and Fire Engineering and Acting Head of Department of Building Services Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. An opening speech was delivered by Prof. K.C. Ho, Dean of School Science & Technology, The Open University of Hong Kong on Protection of drinking water quality in Hong Kong.

Over 60 overseas delegates were from Belgium, USA, Brasil, Japan, UK, France, Taiwan, Germany, Portugal, Slovenia, Switzerland, Holland and over 10 professionals were from Hong Kong. Forty-three papers presented in 8 plenary sessions illustrated current research areas in water demands and consumptions, hot water system designs, water quality, water system planning and standardization, testing and evaluations for drainage systems, modeling, sustainable designs and planning.

The conference plenary meeting and welcome dinner was held on 7-8 September 2008 at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The conference dinner was held on 9 September 2008 at the Harbour Plaza Metropolis Hotel. The farewell dinner was held on 10 September 2008 at the Jumbo Kingdom and sponsored by Studor. An accompany programme was held on 8-9 September 2008. A technical visit to water treatment plant, sewage treatment plant, high-rise residential building estates was held on 10 September 2008.
