CPD Lecture: Fire Protection Engineering, SFPE and Common Problems in Performance-Based Design for Building Fire Safety
A CPD lecture was held on 12 April 2008 at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University with 100 attendants to discuss the above. There are many views on fire engineering. The new profession “Fire Protection Engineering” was first introduced by Mr. Russell P. Fleming, President of Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), and Mr. Chris Jelenewicz, SFPE Engineering Program Manager. The need for performance-based design for fire safety provisions in some buildings was then introduced by Professor W.K. Chow and Dr. N.K. Fong. Performance-based design in Hong Kong and overseas were outlined, and common problems identified in ‘fire engineering approach’ were discussed.
