Programme
Aims
The primary aim of the programme is to provide continuing
education opportunity
for engineering students seeking to upgrade
their qualifications and to specialize in the building services
discipline.
Similar to the other programmes in the department leading to the same award, it satisfies the need for trained professional building services engineers. Ultimately, graduates will contribute to the development of the building services discipline in Hong Kong, Mainland China and elsewhere.
Characteristics
You will learn the "art and science" of providing safe, health and
energy-efficient
built environments which have minimal adverse environment
impact. You will also face intellectual challenges, furthering
your development towards a management role in the profession.
The Department of Building Services Engineering emphasizes
the development of personal skills, such as selfdevelopment, and
good communication skills.
In additional to classroom lecturing, tutorials and laboratory experiments, you are required to complete two major projects ?a research project and a group design project. The design project is based on design or refurbishment of a substantial building for which you will act as the building services engineer, giving professional advice to the architect and the client. All students will be sponsored as student member of CIBSE UK or ASHRAE, USA.
Professional
Recognition
The department expects accreditation for satisfying the academic requirements
for the designation MHKIE in Building Services Discipline,
which also provides for recognition by CIBSE, UK.
Programme
Structure
This programme is equivalent to the well-established part-time four-year
programme leading to the same award. Year One is equivalent
to Year One and Year Two of the part-time programme,
and Year Two is equivalent to Year Three and Year Four
of that programme.
You attend classes as normal full-time students. Some evening attendance may be scheduled to suit student needs.
Entrance
Requirements
Higher
Diploma or Higher Certificate (with credits) in Building
Services Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or Electrical
Engineering.
