Dr. Lu obtained her BSc degree from Shandong Jianzhu University and MSc degree from Tongji University both in HVAC engineering, and received her Ph.D. degree in Renewable Energy field from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2004. She then had worked for Parsons Brinckerhoff (Asia) Ltd as engineer/energy specialist for two years. In 2006, she joined the Department of Building Services Engineering as assistant professor, and was promoted to Associate Professor in July 2012.  


Since 2006, in total, Dr. Lu has successfully secured over 24 research grants (with the total amount of HK$ 14.7 million) as PI, including over HK$11.4 million external funds. She has secured 8 external highly competitive research grants, including 3 RGC General Research Grants (11/12; 12/13, 14/15), 2 Innovation and Technology Funds (ITF) (2009; 2015), 2 Environment and Conservation Funds (ECF) (2008; 2009) and 1 CPU Public Policy Research (PPR) Funding (2014).  She has authored/co-authored one handbook chapter, two books, and over 117 refereed journal papers (including over 101 SCI journal papers which is leading to over 1225 non-self-citations). 6 of her papers are awarded as highly cited papers.  She has received the FCLU Dean’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Research Funding in 2010 and in 2014, silver Medal as one of inventors from 40th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva 2012, and HKIE Innovation Award 2013 for the engineering industry: Certificate of Merits (Technology Category). Her current research and consultancy interests include renewable energy applications and technology development, green building nanomaterial development, and fluid mechanics and heat/mass transfer related to building studies.

Starting from 2009, a new program for PhD students “Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme” is introduced by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC). The scheme aims to recruit outstanding graduates, irrespective of country of origin and ethnic background, to Hong Kong, and will provide a 3-year tuition scholarship, a monthly stipend of HK$20,000 and conference/research related travel allowance of HK$10,000 per year for awardees for a maximum period of three years.
